Bentonite

Bentonite (also known as Montmorillonite), a natural clay primarily of volcanic origin, is normally grayish-white in color and packed full of minerals. This clay is mostly found in the US; the largest and most active deposits are found in Wyoming and Montana. History has shown that this ingredient has been around for a long time. The ancient Mesopotamians used it as a skin cleanser, the ancient Egyptians used it as an antiseptic while tribes throughout several countries used it as an internal detoxifying agent and for protection against poisoning.

Today, Bentonite is normally used in mud baths or facial masks and has the ability to absorb excess oil, toxins, impurities and heavy metals. Due to its ability to draw out impurities and soak up excess oil, Bentonite products are often recommended for those with oilier skin types or who suffer from acne.
