How to choose a new fragrance
Ever been disappointed after purchasing a new perfume? What smelled great in the store might seem very different after wearing it awhile.
To find a scent that suits you, take advantage of the testers at department stores. Spritz yourself with one that appeals to you and then see what you think of it after at least 30 minutes—the time it takes for the top notes to dissipate. As the mid and base notes emerge, you’ll get a sense of the main body of the perfume.
Wondering where to start? Giants like Vera Wang, Kenneth Cole and Calvin Klein still dominate the industry, but brands such as Clean and L’Occitane have gathered dedicated followings. Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Sarah Jessica Parker have also carved out their share of the market. Have some fun experimenting and you’ll soon discover your signature fragrance.
