Malic Acid, an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), is found naturally in fruits and vegetables with one of its richest sources being apples. AHAs are a type of chemical exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and enhances cellular renewal. As we age our cell turnover rate slows, so it is important to use an exfoliant (manual or chemical) regularly. Malic Acid is not as well known as Glycolic Acid, another type of AHA, but it provides many of the same benefits with less irritation.
