Recently, I feel like every week we hear about new research that shows how important nighttime sleep is to our health. Getting enough quality sleep at night seems to be one of the key factors, if not THE key factor for our well–being, whether we’re talking about our metabolism, hormonal balance, immune system, our mental and emotional well–being, or – yes – our skin’s health. We need our “beauty sleep”, literally.
The irony is, that in times of stress (whether it’s an overfull work schedule, travel or challenges at home), when we need rest the most, falling asleep can be quite difficult for so many of us. As a working mother of two kids under 4, I often find myself FINALLY in bed after a long, stressful day, only to feel strangely wired and not able to fall asleep. Sound familiar?
When the “to–do–list” is a mile long, and you barely have time to wash your face, the idea of a nighttime ritual seems frivolous, but simple rituals before bed time are exactly what can help us calm down, relax mind and body and slip more effortlessly into slumber. Even just 15 minutes of a soothing ritual can help facilitate better sleep. This is also the perfect time to incorporate some TLC for your skin.
Here is my 15–minute nighttime ritual in 5 easy steps for body, skin and mind. Sometimes I only do a portion of it, sometime I add to it.
