I have used PCA products in the past and have had good luck with them. This product has a very strong smell that is like alcohol. It is also drying. I put straight tamanu oil on after it absorbed. But after using the entire bottle, I didn't see any change. I even took "before" and "after" pictures to see if there was a difference. I'm now trying the Lei'd product to see if it works.
I have been using this gel for a bout 2 years . My brown spots are still there but, they are much lighter now. Laser would be the only way to eliminate them totally. I'm not ready for that yet.
I keep coming back to PCA Pigment gel. My Dr. recommends 4% but it comes in a cream and doesn't penetrate into my skin. When I switch back to PCA I notice results immediately. I am blonde blue eyes. Dealing with hyperpigmentation due to hormonal or melasma.
I have fair colored, dry and slightly sensitive Asian skin. I wear sunscreen and reapply religiously, even on cloudy days. Normally, I go to my med spa dermatologist every couple of years and have my melasma lasered off in one fell swoop (and even with the laser, certain spots seemed to return slowly). Gets expensive and funds are tight now.I've try many lightener products throughout the years before my laser treatments that were not medical grade. None have seemed to work until now.I was not sure the gel was doing anything. I was using it every night. It is a bit drying and I heavily moisturize after the gel fully absorbs. I went through 1/2 the bottle and did not see a difference. Now I am 2/3rd through, I have noticed that the darkest melasma splotches are much lighter. They are not gone, but blend better into my lightly tanned (not intentionally tanned, it is summer at this writing and even with sunscreen I get some color) face.I'm hoping the spots will be even lighter at the end of the bottle. I don't expect the spots to totally disappear. If the product works as expected, I will purchase more for my maintenance.
So I've tried every product to treat melasma. I have a brown patch on my cheek from sun damage and birth control. The first week this stuff makes your melasma worse, so you probably don't want to start it if you have plans that week! For me the process was as follows (keep in mind I have sensitive skin):At first my spot turned darker brown, then a reddish brown that was very pronounced. I worried a little. Then it started to turn rough and scaly. I continued to apply gel twice a day, even though it stung/burned when I applied to affected area. After a couple days it started to peel off. I could actually see my dark spot peeling off. I kept applying even though it burned and peeled. I worried because now my spots were a mix of brown, red and a peeling mess. So I called PCA and asked if I should continue treatment. They said yes and what's happening to me means it's working. So I listened. I've been using twice a day for a month now and my spots are completely gone! For the last week in a half my spots were just pinkish red but I decided to keep using and now the lightening agents are working to finish the job. First te spots go through a deep acidic peeling process that's not too flattering and then the lightening process starts. That's why it's important to be consistent with this stuff bc if u use it right and can handle a little unflattering weeks than you will see results! It's definitely worth it!!!!
First let me say that I have used Obagi and had great success with that. I can't say the same (yet) about PCA. I wanted to do a quick touch up on a couple of spots that have surfaced since I stopped Obagi a couple of years ago. This product seemed to be easier to use than Obagi and certainly less expensive.I have been using PCA for 3 weeks now. I went through the pinkish-redness stage and then one morning I woke up with a bright red wound on my face. It looked like an acid burn. I stopped using the PCA hoping that would help it heal. This is much worse than just redness. Nothing like this happened with Obagi.I've been walking around with this angry spot, the size of my thumbnail, for almost a week. Now it has turned from red to brown scabby thing. There are signs at the edges that the peeling process will begin again, and I hope that is so. What is there now is way worse than my original spot. I hope I do not scar.I am on the fence about this product. It could be the worse thing I've ever done to myself, but it could be just okay. It is certainly scary.Maybe some skin is just too sensitive for this formula. I would seriously consider the sensitivity level of your skin before using this one, or maybe try the True Tone or the HQ Free formula, but if you can afford it, try Obagi.
I was using the gel for about 2 weeks and after that my skin start peel.. in the next couple of days I start hving rush and red skin.. now I have a red spa like after burning.. not sure what to do at this poin... maybe works for different people, but not for me..
Purchased this serum and pigment bar in hopes of fading a few age spots based on the great reviews. Followed the directions meticulously and always applied a broad spectrum sunscreen (Sheishido SPF 50) after the am application. Used the combo system for 6 weeks and expected the spots to darken before "falling off" as some reviews indicated. Not only did the spots never fade, these products ruined by face!! In addition to an overall darkening of the existing spots, I am now left with multiple new large sun spots that appeared after using these products for a couple weeks. I remained hopeful but discontinued use after horrible results and darker spots and new sun spots that now cover my cheeks. It's important to mention that I take excellent care of my skin and avoid sun exposure if/when possible. Have never reviewed a product but am so disappointed and upset by the condition of my face that I wanted to warn others that the potential negative effect is not worth it! Wish I had never used this product!
This gel worked on my brown spot better than any other pigment correction gel around. It reduced my brown spot up to 80% very quickly. I was very happy until i noticed it kind of stopped working. Also the gel was making my skin very dry and harsh. Then i used Juice green apple peel and that finished the job! The peel and the PCA pigment gel worked great together. The peel made my skin soft and removed the dark spot all together. Im planning to continue the gel.
As a redhead with pronounced freckles and "years" of using any product I could get my hands on, this is the most effective at reducing my freckles. Can't live without it
I have very light skin naturally, but since I was born I had this rather large spotty birthmark that was much darker brown than my natural skin color and extremely noticeable. It always caused self-esteem problems for me growing up, and I went to several different dermatologists about getting it removed and they all seemed to disagree (some said there was nothing that could be done, some said only laser treatment could work, ect). So, I tried the recommended laser treatment a dermatologist suggested, and it didn't work very well at all, and was very expensive. After that failed I felt like there was nothing I could ever do get rid of this thing, and then one day I was researching other methods online that could potentially work (rather hopelessly at that) and came across this product. I thought, "Why not, it's cheap and everything else I've tried hasn't worked so maybe this will be the one". It ABSOLUTELY did. Within two weeks or so I began seeing a change, (albeit a kind of unattractive one, the product sort of pulls the pigment out from deep in the skin and brings it to the surface, which initially makes your dark spots look darker, but then it begins peeling, and you can literally pluck off a piece of peeling skin and look at it and see the pigment in there, it's wild) and it just overwhelmed me. By the time I was done with the whole bottle, the dark spot was gone and it looked (seriously) as if it was never there, plus this product doesn't lighten your natural skin color, only the dark spot (though I'd still be precise with the application so as not to waste any). All in all, one of the best purchases I have ever made, definitely life changing, I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I have dark skin, and tried different products to fade acne blemishes. This is amazing. My face glows. Even my aesthetician at the spa noticed.
This product is terribly overrated. makes your skin look and feel like drivel.
I finished the entire bottle and I still have brown spots.
I've never been compelled to write a review of any product, but OMG, this is the best thing ever. I bought this with a other PCA products (pigment bar, blemish bar, bpo 5% cleanser, smoothing toner, gentle exfoliate, and SPF 25 hydrator moisturizer). Honestly, within 3 days, I noticed a change in my skin and within a week and a half, almost all of my dark spots from acne had faded ( I am African- American, so the spots are very noticeable).'ve been telling all my friends and family that have problem skin about PCA.I will admit, it did "sting" my skin at first, but after the first few days, I was fine. I did have peeling of the skin (which was pretty mild) and redness. PCA products are amazing!!!!!
I love serums but not sure about this one. I have SPOTS and need to get rid of them. I hoped this product would work. Didn't do anything for the spots but I'll use it till it's gone anyway. Stings a little when applied so that makes you think it's doing something. I won't buy again. Good luck to you!
I've been trying to get rid of this horrendous brown spot (result from picking a huge pimple) by my temple for yrs. I spent $ on laser therapy. It faded little bit, but it came back wi/ revenge. The day when my friend goes, 'what 's that? Looks like a tattoo.' Omg! The spot got 2 go!!!After reading reviews, I chose PCA pigment gel. I used it day/night religiously by dabbing a layer only on the spot. (afterward C-Quench and protecting hydrator)It definitely stung. It darkened and turned my spot into a dried up scab. It reminded me of the laser treatment I had. The spot definitely looks faded after the scab peeled. So far I am so happy with the result that I'll continue with its treatment and try out other PCA skin care. This save me $ from laser treatment for sure~ : )
I have tried many products in the past and this one is really great. I have had friends comment on the difference in my hyperpigmentation and they did not know I was using something different.
I've been using pHhaze 13 pigment gel every other night for 2 months to lighten a couple of prominent age spots on my face and I'm seeing great results, although I need to continue use of it to see if the spots disappear completely. Before I purchased it, I read the reviews and many people complained about how drying it was and in some cases it made spots darker. I am no doctor, but I have a few thoughts on this after using the product. It does tend to be drying, so I only apply it in a THIN layer every other night (to give my skin a break) and I use a very moisturizing night cream on top after it has 5 min to absorb into my skin. It is a thin gel consistency and it absorbs quickly. It does have a strong odor, but this doesn't bother me too much because it disappears after I put moisturizer on top. If my skin seems to be especially dry I will take several days off from the treatment for it to "recover". As a result, I have seen very little drying and irritation. My biggest advice is that you have to be patient. Overzealous use is just going to cause problems and make you more frustrated. After about 1-2 weeks of use I did notice that the spots seemed to get slightly darker and I got a little upset. But I read on the PCAskin website that this can happen when the discoloration that is closer to the surface appears darker than the pigment in the lower layers of skin. If discoloration gets darker first (and you have been using sunscreen diligently during the day), it means that the discoloration is rising to the surface to be exfoliated. So they advise to still continue use of the gel (which I did), and about 1-2 weeks after that I did start to see noticeable lightening. Its key to wear sunscreen so your discoloration doesn't come back- very important! My only complaint about this product right now is that these details could have been addressed better on the product packaging.
I've been using this product on and off for months. At first, I didn't see much of a difference. However, with continued use the brown spots on my face have begun to noticeably fade. On one side of my face, they are barely visible. You must stick with it though and stay out of the sun and use SPF when you can't avoid it. Sun exposure brought them back in a heartbeat but a few months of dedicated use of this product faded them again. Also try this in conjunction with the PCA Bar. Definitely enhances the process
no redness or peeling but does nothing to lighten brown spots and i have used the entire bottle.
I am now on my 5th or 6th bottle of this and it is an amazing product. My face was riddled with dark brown patches from a childhood in the sun in FL and hobbies that keep me outside all summer (and sloppy SPF use until recently). I had very dark patches and this has gradually faded them. It is interesting that some faded far quicker than others. I am left with a few spots still in front of my ears but the rest are dramatically better and nearly gone. Also, the exfoliation helps the quality of my skin generally. I can't recommend this enough. Don't shop further.
I have been putting on my cheek area where I have brown spots form sun and pregnancy. I had some removed by laser few years ago, and now the remaining spots were bothering me. I put it on all the spots, big or small, darker or lighter, twice a day. And it seems to work on the darker spot more than the lighter spot. It does burn and form scab, and each time scab is peeled off, the spot is lighter and lighter.
I have dark spots on my face from 40 years of tanning. I was wearing lots of foundation to cover them. They were really bad on my nose and sides of my face in front of my ears (like melasma from pregnancy). I used this product on those 3 areas for two weeks as suggested prior to getting a chemical peel. My spots faded at least 50%. In fact, the only ones that were left were the ones in front of my ears that were buried under my hair line. I think I didn't get enough of the medication on my skin under the hair! I had the chemical peel and I have more than 75% less dark areas. I had no redness, irritation or peeling. This contains 2% Hydroquinone. You can get a prescription for 4%Hydroquinone but expect more side effects since PCAskin products are designed to produce results with minimal or no side effects. If you have hyperpigmentation on your face, hands or chest, you should try this!!!
Using this consistently I have only seen a difference in the redness from past and present breakouts and an evening of skin tone but I was hoping to lighten my freckles which it has not. I guess I dont really know what brown spots or age spots are. I do like the way my skin looks now though. Keep in mind that it is normal for your skin to burn for a bit after applying this. All PCA do this with each stage.
I've had freckles across my nose & cheeks all my life & always hated them. This product faded them plus a couple of birthmarks on my face. Keep in mind that PCA 13 is a true skin peeler. A thin layer will cause a surface peeling, a heavy layer will cause deeper peeling which will take a few days to heal. Regardless, you have to use a high SPF product to keep the pigment from coming back (otherwise, what's the point?). Also, I recommend using the PCA Apres Balm to calm down the redness. I now always have bottle of this on hand, great stuff.
When you start to use it the first time, the area may become red then peel. It even hurts sometimes. After a week or so, the applied aread would become lighter. However, I have almost finished the whole bottle and the spots are still there.
almost completed first bottle, using on acne scars & sunspots. in each case i see results. i've tried other products but not seen this result. plus i have sensitive skin, product has not caused a reaction. I use the apres cream at night and now will follow recommendation to use w/ c-cream. 4-stars because still have time to see how much can accomplish. i will definitely try some of other products
be very careful when using this product. You can get mediocre results at best, but if you use it, DONT use it twice a day as stated on the box. It can lead to serious damage to your skin if you're not careful. remember these are acids you're putting on your skin.
I have used it for a month now, and my brown spots are the same!
I have been using this product for over 1 month now, I must say that it does turn my pigmented spots a darkish color and they crust over alittle. Then they peel. Half of my spots have disappeared and then several other spots are still there. I have been reapplying on the stubborn spots, with the hopes that they will also disappear.
I've been using this for about a month on some sun damage brown spots on my cheeks and they've really faded a lot. It's so nice after years and years of never leaving the house without putting makeup on these brown spots. The one word of advice I'd give is that you should heed the warning about only putting on a thin layer. At first I was globbing it on too thick and it burned my skin and made it peel. But now that I'm using a thin layer it's not causing any irritation.
I tried this product due to the many reviews. I have serious acne scaring that has been hard to get rid of. My derm made many recomendations that did not work, but this does! I'm so glad I tried it. I also ordered the cleanser bar. I will not be without this product.
This product is strong, strongly works for my skin. Brown spots are getting lighter and lighter. But also, this is too strong for my skin. It dries my skin unbelievably, any lotion can't hydrate my skin after using this product. My finger tip's skin is peeling crazy. No, I usually don't have a sensitive skin. SO BE AWARE , IF YOU HAVE A SENSITIVE SKIN. It burns your skin. I will try to get HQ free or whatever version of this, instead of this next time.
i just bought this pigment gel a couple of days ago to help me get rid of my red acne scars. I have used PCA products for a while now and i'm not sure what to think of this product yet. It seems to irritate my skin a bit and, although there is no physical discomfort - my skin doesn't burn or itch but it has turn red. basically my face looks like after an intense peel. i follow up with phaze 7 hydrator and my skin actually feels nice and smooth but it is quite pink... i think i'm going to give this product a try for another week but if my skin doesn't get used to it and the redness remains i'm afraid i will have to stop using it.
I have tried many different pigment creams some worked ok and some not at all. This is the most effective serum I have ever use. It has completely rid my face of brown spots. I mean completely. My skin has almost a translucent look to it. I use this with the vitamin -c cream PCA offers and it has done more for my skin than any other product. I am very satisfied!
I've just ordered my third bottle of this gel, so I feel that I can confidently say that this works! As a kid, we baked in the sun all day. As a teen, it was tanning booths. It wasn't until I was in my 20's that the dangers of the sun were stressed. My brown spots showed up in my 30's. I tried every whitening product I could get my hands on but either it just didn't work or was way too harsh. Yes, I also tried laser treatments and microderm - but the brown spots stayed. PCA pigment gel has actually faded them and improved my skin texture. I didn't experience any skin flakes, maybe because I use a mild cleanser. Highly recommend giving this product a try if you are unhappy with seeing discoloration/brown spots on your skin.
After 40 years of trying products for my freckles, I have never found a product so effective and one that works so fast. Love it
This is the best skincare product I have ever used bar none. It has taken away my brown patches almost completely. It has given my skin a translucent look and smooth feel. This stuff is fantastic!!!
Unfortunately, this didn't do anything for me, and I used it religiously. However, I have pretty stubborn hyperpigmentation -- in fact, I'm now getting laser treatments and peels by a physician to try to get rid of them. I will say that the physician's aesthetician uses PCA products and speaks very highly of them. I think getting rid of hyperpigmentation depends more on the individual than the product.
In less than 2 weeks my brown spots started to lighten. Now...I don't have a problem. Praise God!
This does what it's supposed to do - it removed my brown spots and leaves skin smooth. However, if you use it on face, it is very strong and you will have red, rough patches for a while until it peels off. It really works.
I have tried all the currently-available skin peelers on the market, none of them do the job. This one does. I had stubborn brown spots and patches on my face and this product removed or faded them. I used it over several weeks almost daily to obtain the best results. Bravo for a terrific product!! Thanks Skinstore!
I am so shocked that this products is actually working. I have tried DDF, philosophy, and Peter Thomas Roth. None of them came close to the resluts I can see in just one week. Yes, your skin will get very irritated, so buy the whole recommended skin treatment, and it's not so bad. My hyperpigmentation coverd both of my cheeks and over my upper lip. After one week, it's almost totally gone.
i love this product.....it really does work...
I REALLY wanted this to work on my stubborn melasma (dark spots on forehead, cheeks & upper lip). It didn't make any difference at all. I had to go back to 4% hydroquinone (Obagi Clear) +Retin A.
It did not really fade my spots, but in general made the skin smoother
I have never written a review on a porduct and I am a "product junkie." I am 28 years old and I have hyperpigmentation (above my upper lip, on my cheeks) from hormonal changes. I have tried lasers, peels, prescription lightening creams, drug store lightening creams, etc...) This serum is amazing. Not only do I not have dark brown spots but I have not worn foundation since 3 weeks into using the product. It has made such a difference in my overall skin tone. After much research on products I have been informed that PCA specializes in hyperpigmentation products and helps give consumers relief from the constant annoyance of brown spots.
I'm a brunette and had hormonal brown spots on my face. After trying everything, including laser treatments, this is the product that worked! The brown spots turned very dark and then the skin just peeled off. A little messy for two weeks and as you wait for the skin to peel off, but well worth it.
I am really sad to say that it didn't do anything for me after I applied twice a day for 10 weeks. I don't know what I am doing wrong. It didn't lighten any spots from acne or sun...
