Don’t underestimate the importance of protecting your skin from the sun. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. today, so protecting yourself from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays is not only critical to your skin’s health, but to the health of your whole body. Excessive, unprotected sun exposure also advances the skin’s natural aging process, which can lead to a leathery, wrinkled complexion. And remember, wearing a good sunscreen is essential year-round, as those persistent ultraviolet rays are present even on cloudy days and reflect off water, sand, snow and cement. Aside from wearing protective clothing, hats and sunglasses, it’s important to apply a sunscreen—and/or a moisturizer or foundation that contains sunscreen—to your face and body each and every day. Choose from a number of sun-protecting products for body and face, and remember to look for a product that matches your skin type! If you’re exposed to the sun for more than a few hours at a time, or you get wet or sweaty, don’t forget to reapply your sunscreen often.
