A Health(ier) Cheeseburger Recipe from Skinny Mom Blog

As National Cheeseburger Day is fast approaching (Sunday!), we are sharing two of our favorite cheese related recipes from two fabulous food bloggers. But when we say Cheeseburger recipes, we mean ‘healthier’ cheeseburger recipes. Not just a standard cheese dripping burger similar to what you can get from the local burger bar…

As huge fans of the Skinny Mom blog, we’ve decided to feature a recipe which plays on the Cheeseburger theme, without the bread!

Introducing the Skinny Mom version of the Skinny Cheeseburger Pie – a bit of a new one for you all to try out there! This recipe is a fun twist on the classic family meal of a pie, combined with those naughty cheese cravings you might get from time to time. It’s also one that will impress the kids, and only takes around 30 minutes to cook.

The Skinny Mom Skinny Cheeseburger Pie

A tasty tweak on the classic Cheeseburger, and twist on the family favorite pie! This version takes on lean ground Turkey and reduced fat cheese to make this delicious dish…

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp small onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tsp McCormick® Grill Mates® hamburger seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Heinz® reduced-sugar ketchup
  • 1 cup low-fat cottage cheese
  • 1 sprinkle black pepper
  • 1 (8 ounce) can of Pillsbury® Reduced Fat Crescent Rolls
  • 1 cup shredded reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 slices of tomato


  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Coat a 9-inch round baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey, onion, and garlic and sprinkle with the hamburger seasoning. Cook until the ground turkey is browned, 7 to 8 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break the turkey up as it cooks. Remove from the heat.

  3. Add the Worcestershire sauce and ketchup to the turkey mixture and stir to combine. Stir in the cottage cheese, season with the pepper, and stir to combine

  4. Line the baking dish with the crescent rolls. To do this, start by separating each individual triangle. Then align the long side of the triangles around the edge of baking dish. Slightly overlap the triangles as you make your way around them and fill in the bottom of the dish using remaining triangles. Pinch the seams together. Gently poke a few holes in the dough triangles with a fork.

  5. Prebake the crust for 6 to 7 minutes.

  6. Remove the crust from the oven and add the ground turkey mixture. Sprinkle the cheddar evenly over the pie. Place the tomato slices on top of the cheese. Cover just the crust with a thin strip of foil to avoid charring the edges

  7. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted, about 20 minutes
