Demystifying Eyelash Conditioners
As we age, our eyelashes begin to thin, leaving us with less than lavish lashes. Fortunately, advances in the cosmetics world have enabled us to prolong the inevitable a bit. Eyelash conditioners allow women to have gorgeous, voluminous lashes without the aid of typical thickening mascaras or false eyelashes. Recent controversy about an active ingredient in eyelash conditioners has lead to the reformulation of several favorites.
Bimatoprost, typically used in eye drops to control glaucoma, has an interesting side effect; it also lengthens and strengthens eyelashes. Originally, some cosmetics companies used bimatoprost in their eyelash conditioning formulas, which were met with rave results. But because the line between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals was blurred, most companies voluntarily withdrew their products and reformulated with a substitution for bimatoprost.
Jan Marini Skin Research released a new version of their product in February 2007, Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash Conditioner, that has been distributed to tens of thousands of satisfied customers.
Athena’s RevitaLash was developed by an ophthalmologist whose wife was undergoing cancer treatment and had thinning lashes. In order to continue providing the highest quality product possible, RevitaLash was re-released in December 2007.
A close competitor of these companies, La Canada Ventures, escaped the controversy entirely because MD Lash Factor never contained bimatoprost. The active ingredient in MD Lash Factor is actually a newly patented substance called dechloro ethylcloprostenolamide. To ensure that trouble was avoided, extensive tests were conducted with positive results that were submitted to the FDA.
Another consumer favorite, TALIKA Lipocils Eyelash Conditioning Gel, is enriched with a complex made of plant extracts and lecithin. Soy Lecithin liposomes help stimulate eyelash growth while the plant extracts moisturize.
These new formulations have women rejoicing about the effectiveness of eyelash conditioners. Thrilled with the results, many say they'll never go without them!
