At SkinStore.com, we believe we have a social responsibility to give back to the community. As part of the drugstore.com family, we’ve extended the reach of the drugstore.com foundation into Northern California. Focusing on "Basic Needs and Healthy Starts," we are now accepting applications to award grant monies to organizations offering resources to disadvantaged children and adults in the Sacramento area. Please review the guidelines to ensure that your organization meets the criteria below. If it does, please print and fill out the grant request completely, include all relevant documentation and mail to:

Requests will be accepted through May 31. You will be notified via email when your application is received. Grant decisions will be made by June 30, 2013.

We contribute
We are proud to support two very special organizations. To find out more about them or if you would like to consider an individual contribution, click on the links below.

	St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children provides emergency shelter as well as counseling and social services programs.
	Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services is committed to helping those in need and moving them toward self-sufficiency and financial independence.

We get involved
Both organizations are based near our regional headquarters, but their programs extend across our community. St. John's assists women and children from all over the Sacramento area transition from crisis to self-sustainability, and the Food Bank provides free emergency goods and services to 15,000 area men, women and children each month. Since the organizations are local, we can, and do, get personally involved. We donate. We volunteer. We know where our contributions go, because we see the results — first hand. And that is powerful inspiration.

December 2012

• We organized a food drive to benefit the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, donating $300 in cash and 300 pounds of food.
• We collected toys for the Toy Drive for Military Families, which is part of the local non-profit organization, Never Forget Our Fallen.
• Members of the marketing department served dinner at St. John’s, having a great time getting to know staff and residents at the shelter.

June 2012

• St. John’s Shelter was the beneficiary of a $5,000 check from the drugstore.com Foundation.
• Quarterly donations were made to St. John’s during 2012.

Halloween Carnival at St. John’s Shelter

Most of these kids never experience a carnival … but they now have something to talk about — a Halloween carnival with games, face painting, bounce houses, and entertainment. It was a delightful afternoon for all with plenty of smiles and fun. They decorated pumpkins, were captivated by the magician, donned masterpieces from the balloon artist and enjoyed cupcakes and goody bags. The children were extremely appreciative and we felt privileged to give them a happy memory.

Coat Drive at St. John’s Shelter

Chilly weather makes anyone want to bundle up in a nice, warm coat. Imagine what it would be like if you didn't have one. Many of the women and children at St. John’s left dangerous situations with just the clothes on their backs. Our staff organized a coat drive to benefit the shelter. Seeing the appreciation in the eyes of the women reminded us why we get involved.
