As they worked to discover sustainable products that could be produced in Africa and sold in Europe and the U.S., the Leakeys met plastic surgeon Dr. Ashton Kaidi who had extensively studied the benefits of an extract derived from marula trees in East Africa. The Marula The Leakey Collection Omega Rich Pure Marula Oil is a fair trade skin care treatment produced from the fruit of the East African Marula tree. The oil has long been used in natural medicinal practices to heal the skin and improve its appearance, but traditionally, the precious oil has been difficult to obtain in its pure form. This marula oil is drawn from fruit gathered by hand that has fallen from marula trees growing naturally around rural villages in Africa. Because of its origins, the oil is incredibly pure. All that has been added to the formula is a blend of natural extracts that improve the scent of the oil, and these additional oils account for only 1 percent of the total volume of the product.
Marula oil is rich in antioxidants and omega 9 fatty acid. In fact, the oil has more of these nutrients than grapeseed and argan oils, which are traditionally used in anti-aging skin care products. The antioxidants and fatty acids help to stimulate collagen production, neutralize free radicals and even fade hyperpigmentation. The emollient properties of marula oil allow it to normalize hydration levels in the skin tissue, fighting dryness while soothing irritation caused by environmental stressors. The oil is intended for use once per day after cleansing.
