Oily hair can leave you feeling really gross, especially in the summer. But you can take steps to mitigate it with the right regimen and products here at SkinStore!

Minimize the Wash

Oil production in the hair is usually solved by washing the hair when it’s oily, but it's more counter-intuitive than you think. Washing your hair too much can lead to your scalp and hair being stripped of its natural oils. In response, your hair produces oil to make up for the nutrients lost, sometimes in abundance.
Instead of washing your hair often, you should stretch out your wash cycles to a few days. This way, your hair can regulate its oil production. Another thing to consider is grabbing a shampoo that clarifies and regulates the Ph levels.

For freshening up in between, you should experiment with dry shampoos and hair powders like VIRTUE’s Refresh, which are designed to help soak up that oil without stripping your scalp of its necessary sebum.

Hydrate Your Hair

If you’re a skincare enthusiast, you may be familiar with the hack to use an oil based cleanser if you have oily skin. The same concept goes for your hair.

Providing your hair with moisture, hydration, and volumizing products such as conditioners, masks, and treatments can offset your hair’s oil production because your scalp wouldn’t need to create more oil.

Use Products Lightly

Hydrating your hair is important, but we understand that you don’t want to weigh your hair down! Using a spray or spritz, like a leave-in conditioner, gives the most optimal product distribution with the most minimal product use. Less is definitely more, after all!
