Many of our customers ask, “What is a peel and how do I know if I would benefit from one? “ Here are some helpful tips if you find yourself asking to peel or not to peel? A peel is a deep exfoliation treatment that results in smoother, more even toned skin.  Peels help address concerns such as lightening hyperpigmentation, fading acne spots and restoring radiance to dull, lackluster skin. Peels come in various forms and strength. Some are of liquid form and have high percentage active ingredients and are applied by and licensed esthetician or dermatologist.  Others are thicker in texture, like a masque and are left on for a specified amount of time. Lastly, the easiest of use are peel pads that are swiped on the skin.  Peels range in strength from mild to aggressive. The milder peels tend to have no down time and can be used at home.  While more aggressive peels can result in temporary redness and flaking and are in office procedures. Everyone can benefit from exfoliation.  If the youngest, freshest skin cells are always on top you will have radiant, glowing skin.  Plus, you maximize the effectiveness of your other skin care products when your skin is exfoliated. Without exfoliation your skin develops a layer of dead skin cells creating a “wax paper” effect not allowing your other skincare products to penetrate through.Peeling Do’s: Do start slow.  Start at a low strength and leave on for a short time.  You may be more sensitive the first few times, remember you can always build up later. Do them at night, if possible. You’ll want to avoid sunlight after a peel. Fresh, baby cells are more likely to burn.  If you must do a peel during the day, ALWAYS use an SPF before going outside. Sunlight can accelerate the effects of acids.  Don’t risk over-exposure that may cause hyperpigmentation. Do moisturize.  You’ll want to put some hydration back in to your skin as some peels may be drying.  Moisturizer will also help soothe your delicate new skin.Peeling Don’ts: Don’t be afraid to say enough is enough.  If you are experiencing any sensation that feels more than tolerable, take the peel off.  You should feel the peel working, but it should not be so uncomfortable that you want to run for a fire extinguisher. Don’t over-do it. Peeling should be 2-3 times a week at the most. If you tend to have more delicate skin or any sensitivity once a week is all you need.  Peels should be alternated with your regular exfoliant product and not used on the same days. Some great peels are: Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel – This organic peel is made from organic citrus and apple juices.  It helps with fine lines and wrinkles, evening out skin tone and brightening.  It comes in Sensitive and Full Strength.
