The Summer season should mean lots of outdoor plans, jetting off on holiday, and strutting around in your best bikini. However, it means a very different thing to a certain group of us. If your natural hair type falls into the category of coarse, dry, frizz-prone or curly, you will know exactly what we mean.
So many of us actually fear the Summer months due to the havoc the heat can play on our hair. When humidity strikes, natural waves and curls can transform into masses of unruly frizz, so how do we solve this? We've put together some of the most common worries that surround natural hair, and how it can survive the humidity of the Summer ahead.
- Q What type of shampoo is ideal to use to prevent frizziness?
- A A shampoo and conditioner with smoothing agents is what you need to look for when it comes to preventing frizz. Beating the frizz can be a challenge during heat of the holiday season, especially with all the harmful elements we come into contact with, such as chlorine. Start to prep your hair by washing with a smoothing shampoo that features nourishing properties, and has a rich, luxury texture. The perfect duo we recommend is the Frederick Fekkai Essential Shea Duo, which utilises Shea Butter in both the shampoo and conditioner, for super moisturized hair. [product_display id="2"]
- Q How can I keep waves and curls more tamed and manageable?
- A Although we have the tendency to try and fight with our curls and waves, have you ever thought about using the Summer months to try and enhance them instead? If you find your hair starts to naturally curl as soon as the rays of the sun hit it, look at investing in a glossy curl enhancing cream, or a sea salt infused spray to add texture to waves. One's we are currently loving include the Frederic Fekkai Soleil Beach Waves Tousling Spray for that beach babe, loose wave look, or the Philip B Oud Royal Mega Curl Enhancer. Both work to hydrate the hair and bring out it's natural texture. [product_display id="3"]
- Q Does it matter what hair-dryer I use?
- A There are some hair dryers out there which can help to smooth out the hair and tame any unnecessary frizz. The main aim is to make sure you have a hair dryer which dries the hair, without actually drying it out. Ionic tools are great for this, as is the Panasonic Nanoe™ (pronounced nano-E). This particular item uses unique Nanoe technology to take the moisture from your hair and in the air, creating tiny, moisture-rich particles which penetrate the hair. This process helps to strengthen and protect hair against the damage from heat and brushing. So in other words, it's the ideal drying tool! It also includes three smart attachments that help to accelerate drying, add volume and minimize frizz. Don't go on holiday without it! [product_display id="8"]
- Q What about using an SPF for hair?
- A SPF is just as important to use on your hair as it is your skin, and shouldn't be disregarded. There are plenty of heat protection sprays out there which are great to spray onto damp hair before styling, but can also be used as a light mist on dry hair to provide protection. If you want to fight the frizz too, opt for an SPF heat protection spray which is moisturizing and repairing, and spray a little onto your hair before running straighteners through it. We love the Philip B Oud Royal Thermal Protection Spray, which supplies a multitude of vitamins to the hair too. [product_display id="4"]
- Q Should I pay more attention to giving my hair frizz fighting treatments?
- A Absolutely. One of the best ways to care for frizz prone hair in the humidity is to ensure it is looked after more regularly. Intense masks, hot oils and leave-in conditioners are needed much more when it comes to de-frizzing your hair and teaching it to behave in the heat. The more hydration and nourishment you can lock in, the better your hair will start to look. A fantastic moisturizing mask which will help to smooth out frizz and provide a healthy shine is the Klorane Mask with Mango Butter, which is super rich in nourishing and restorative essential fatty acids. It's fantastic for dry hair, detangling and repairing as it works it's magic. [product_display id="5"]
- Q Any other tips and tricks?
- A One trick worth knowing is to utilise a shine spray to tame frizz, as well as spritzing on a gleaming shine. Shine sprays may be predominately known for their abilities to add gloss, but not a lot of people know they are excellent for locking in moisture too! This helps to slightly weigh the hair down a little and prevent humidity to creep in. Chose one which has extra moisturizing benefits, such as the Rene Furterer Fioravanti No Rinse Detangling Spray. This little hero has been specially formulated with active plant ingredients that work to restore shine and boost radiance. Another one we love is the Terax Shine Color Locking Leave in Conditioner, which protects against frizzy fly-aways as well as featuring keratin protein to strengthen and protect damaged hair. Shiny and manageable hair all round! [product_display id="6"]
