So your skin isn’t as hydrated as those tall glasses of filtered water you should be drinking every few hours.

You’re not alone. By the time the shiny holiday lights fade, the frigid weather often dries out the skin of even the most dedicated water drinkers. Winter is coming, and we are here for it.

It’s important to know how to not only treat those dry skin days, weeks, or even months but combat them once and for all.

If you want your shiny skin days back, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s some tips.

Exfoliate Responsibly

Exfoliating is like that really honest friend that you hate to love— really great in small dosages but probably not the first thing you want to experience every single morning.

Your skin has a moisture barrier for a reason, and scrubbing it all away will leave you vulnerable to bacteria, redness and breakouts.

Buffing away your dead skin is a great way to bring that moisturized baby skin back to the surface, but listen to your skin if it’s telling you enough is enough. Try once or twice a week, and adjust from there.

Exfoliating can be achieved in various ways. Washing your face with a washcloth or an electronic facial brush, smoothing, or even serum-ing.

Oil

First of all, if you have dry skin, oil is your best friend. Not the painfully honest friend, but the friend that tells you your hair looks good when you haven’t washed it for a whole week.

We’re not talking about the gross, greasy unwashed hair kind of oil though. We’re talking about the kind of oil that compliments what your skin already has, and nourishes it, and makes it beautiful and amazing.

Incorporating oils into your routine can be as easy as dripping it into your bath, using an oil based cleanser, swapping out your cream moisturizer or just lathering it all over your body.

Here’s to hoping your dry skin days are over with the clicks of a few magical links.

Exfoliate down, oil up and don’t forget to drink those tall glasses of filtered water.
