It's 2018, and by now you've probably heard of a facial massage, but what is it? It's exactly what it sounds like, but don't worry, far more gentle than the back massages your "masseuse" of a friend tries to give you.

Why should you do facial massages?

Benefits of facial massages range from increased blood flow to a natural facelift. We've put them all together so you don't have to wonder!

Relieves Tension

Tense muscles are more likely to harbor wrinkles, so those in your face need to be worked out and relaxed regularly. All it takes is 1 to 2 minutes a day to relax the stressed, tired muscles in your face.

Increases Circulation

Same as if you were massaging a sore shoulder or body muscle; gently massage the soft lines around the mouth, eyes, and forehead. This also helps your lymph nodes drain the toxins out of your body.

At-Home Facelift

Instantly look younger! Regular face massages mean oxygen and the more oxygen to the skin means better collagen production. Massaging motions increase blood circulation to the areas of the face and neck, which in turn bring oxygen to the skin as well.

Skin Products Absorb Better

After you've cleansed your skin, apply serums in light, tapping motions using your fingertips. When applying moisturizer, warm between palms of the hands and press into the skin. Applying your regime this way helps them to absorb into your skin better.

Facial Massage Techniques

When massaging your face, be sure to work from the center of the face in circular motions going upwards and outwards.

You want to be working against gravity here. Never pull at the skin. For oily or acne-prone skin never massage for more than 10 minutes; for all other skin types avoid exceeding 20 minutes as this could cause breakouts.

Start down on the neck and décolletage and work your way up to the forehead. We're working against gravity, remember? So, it only makes sense to work in an upwards motion. Give special attention to pressure points and the delicate skin around the eyes. Use gentle, circular motions in this area of the face.

With so many benefits of a face massage, how could you not work this into your daily routine? If not for the anti-aging benefits, than do it for the relaxation! No one likes a tired face, incorporate facial massages and release that tension!
